On Tuesday, March 22nd at 6pm, join WMSE over the airwaves or as an audience member for WMSE’s dynamic ‘Local/Live at Club Garibaldi’s’ series, (which WMSE introduced in the summer of 2015)! This special night of lots of local music at Club Garibaldi’s (2501 S. Superior) will be in honor of WMSE’s 35th anniversary + birthday and will be a whopping three hours long (6pm – 9pm).

The celebratory + lengthier Local/Live will feature Milwaukee’s diverse musical talent spanning four groups — TRUE Skool, The Tontine Ensemble, Myles Coyne (and band) and Sat. Nite Duets. Buckle up for a live radio segment that is free and open to the public to listen to and participate in (21+ only, please!). In order of performance:

TRUE Skool, Inc. – Milwaukee’s TRUE Skool uses the urban arts as a tool to engage youth in social justice, leadership and workforce development. TRUE Skool understands that we MUST create new solutions to old problems. Poverty, a troubled public school system, lack of positive opportunities and jobs for young people…Coming from the “Golden Era of Hip-Hop” our instructors understand that Hip Hop culture was a positive empowering force in our lives as young people. It introduced us to past and present leaders, educated us on political and social issues through music and art, created new entrepreneurial opportunities and exposed us to different cultures and arts in ways that school never did.

Tontine Ensemble – founded in the spring of 2014 with the mission to perform improvisational works and to champion the compositions of Milwaukee composers. Its four current members first played together for a Blank Radio recording session and immediately began rehearsing regularly. Allen Russell, Molly Lieberman, Pat Reinholz, and Barry Paul Clark are all classically trained musicians who teach and regularly perform in a variety of styles around the Milwaukee area and beyond and have appeared as guest artists at Mike Neumeyer and Friends, Danceworks, Inc. (Paleontology of a Woman – 2014, Footsteps, Shadows & Whispers – 2015), Milwaukee Follies, Formations Series for New and Improvised Music, Alverno Presents (Prince Uncovered – 2015) and The Pre-Maturely Air Conditioned Arts Collective.

Myles Coyne – aka “Mouse Corn”, has recently made the jump from his singer-songwriter roots to a full-fledged alternative rock band. With a new lineup consisting of Milwaukee legends Steve Vorass Jr. (I’m Not A Pilot) and Chuck Zink (Mortgage Freeman), Myles & Co. will play songs off his just-released, Mouse Corn EP.

Sat. Nite Duets – Their first EP, One Nite Only released in 2010, was a runaway success and considered by many to have kick-started the indie rock scene in MKE. Since then, they’ve consistently released quality quirky, distinctive rock records and have established themselves as an incredibly versatile and dynamic live act. They have collectively listened to the The Basement Tapes three million times and once received an email from David Berman that said, “call me if you’re ever on MTV Unplugged.”

Stop by Club Garibaldi on Tuesday, March 22nd to take in a sample of Milwaukee’s incredible talent and get to know our guests up close and personal – WMSE Music Director Erin Wolf and co-host Cal Roach, will lead all four groups through questions in between their live sets. You can get in on the interview, too; the audience will be active participants in the interview, allowed to pick the our guests’ brains by writing out their questions for Cal and Erin to ask, live on the radio.

Doors are at 5:30pm, segment starts at 6pm and runs until 9pm and if you can’t join us for the live segment and show at Club Garibaldi, please tune in, per usual, to 91.7 FM (or stream online at WMSE.org) at the 6 o’clock hour.

Local/Live on WMSE is sponsored by The Garage.
