On the last Saturday in February, UEDA hosts an annual fundraiser that celebrates Milwaukee’s culture and diversity, Carnival Milwaukee. In February and March people from all around the world participate in cultural celebrations, such as Carnival Brazil, Mardi-Gras in New Orleans, Carnival Jamaica, Carnival Mazatlan, and Carnival Cologne in Germany. This event highlights Milwaukee’s cultural treasures, including food, music and cultural entertainment and features activities representative of Carnival celebrations from around the world.

Each year, Carnival Milwaukee includes:

A Food Tasting that includes local restaurants and caterers showcasing their specialties for your sampling pleasure – taking you from Jamaica to Germany, the Gulf Coast to the Caribbean, France to the American South, Italy to the Middle East and Latin America to Asia.

Live entertainment by a range of music and cultural partners.

A fabulous Raffle, Wine Toss and guests in Carnival costumes or cultural attire.

Interested in learning more? Last year’s Carnival Milwaukee was a huge success! About 225 people joined us, and enjoyed a variety of food from 26 local restaurants/caterers and live entertainment by De La Buena. Take a look at pictures from this year’s event here on Flickr.

One of our guests wrote a column for The Capital Times that captures the purpose and what we at UEDA hoped people would experience at Carnival: “Rather, it represented the far deeper realization among Milwaukee’s vast talent pool that healthy communities require healthy culture, genuine communication and collaboration among people of good will of all races.”
