Construction memories on the new 91.7fm

A lot of effort has gone into the construction of the new studios, most of it from volunteers to whom we are most grateful. We are also grateful to you the listening audience for your tremendous support during our pledge drives. The money we received during our pledge drives and through the ongoing WMSE Club Card program has helped to make this dream a reality. Special thanks also goes out to those businesses and individuals who have donated their time and resources to making this happen.

Thanks to you the dream was acheived early on Saturday, March 6th, 1999; WMSE started broadcasting from its new radio station.

Different phases of the construction process have been frozen in time through digitial photography and are online for your viewing pleasure.

Before we could begin construction we needed to remove the existing walls. These photos show our "diamond in the rough" as demolition of the old structure began.

Once the old structure was removed it was time to "prep" the floors.

Then the steel framing was put up. Things were finally starting to take shape.

Miles and miles of cable for audio, data and electricity were run by our electricians and carefully inspected by our engineers to make sure that everything that would soon be hidden was just right.

To maximize the available space, two mezzanine decks were built. One for the music department and one for administration.

With the insulation in place it was time to begin putting up the drywall.

Shown here is the space which would soon be the music library. With speakers built into the walls, indirect lighting and 25 foot ceilings; this will be the focal point of the new station.

Stairway to heaven...
well actually the music department
