As if Milwaukee needed another reason to go out this Saturday (what with Record Store Day and everything else), here’s a really good one to get out and appreciate what Milwaukee music has to offer, especially in regards to a band that has freaked their city out (in a good way, of course) for over three decades. Those XCleavers, were one of the most sought-after opening acts for up and coming national touring bands back in the ’80′s.

Opening for everyone from U2 to the Police, Those XCleavers were popular for their ska, new wave, pop and punk style and their high-energied shows, subscribing to the Keith Richards mantra that ‘rock and roll is music for the neck, downwards’. In a 2007 interview with The Shepherd Express, David Luhrssen wrote this reflecting on their recent reunion, “they were often the first new wave act to play Milwaukee’s dull-as-dirt ’80′s rock clubs, and managed to crack the rotation of a local commercial radio station with an irresistible single, “Skip a Beat”…”.

This Saturday, Shank Hall [1434 N. Farwell] plays host to Those XCleavers, a standout Milwaukee band who haven’t given up their rock and roll energy, and have managed to sound timeless throughout genres going through the wringer. Catch the group for an 8 p.m. show (21+) .
