Soft Targets began as some of the best bands often do — through frienship. “Mike and Rusty met when they were elementary school-aged. They saw very little of each other until the advent of social media. When Rusty’s project All These Runners came to an end he contacted Mike to get together and jam. They really hit it off, creating material with very little contention. They share a mutual appreciation for bands like Lungfish and Do Make Say Think.

“During the writing process, Mike and Rusty would talk a lot about politics, religion and video games. That likely fueled the emotion behind their songwriting, while their personal angst informed the energy they play with.” Soft Targets cite their label influences as being these, accordingly: Constellation, Thrill Jockey, Dischord. You get the idea.
