Want to know how the crazy as all get out Monotonix show was at the Bay View VFW last night? Just take a look at the above photo from last night (singer Ami Shalev is in the middle with the drum). A picture is worth a thousand words, indeed. Israeli rockers brought a raucous and high-energied set to the all-ages crowd last night, pulling, dragging and re-setting their drum kit, mics and guitars all over the venue floor, up the bleachers and then some. The three-piece scuzz-rock set sounded messy, looked a whole lotta sweaty and was enormously fun (a little audience participation always adds to the fun, and no Monotonix should would be complete without it). Think if Gogol Bordello scaled things down, got off the stage and left the words ‘gypsy punk’ out of  their entire set.

Local openers Centipedes performed a powerful set, their vocal-centric rock music heavy on the drums, too. Terrior Bute, despite some mic problems, brushed all that off to do a solid, synth-heavy freakout in between the sometimes-there screamy vocals. Call Me Lightning, featuring newly-inducted bassist Tyler Chicorel [Father Phoenix] got the crowd moving with a confident, but short set. Tuesday nights, apparently,  were made for rocking. Judging by crowd response, maybe Tuesday is the new Saturday, or maybe Milwaukee is just in love with three good-crazy Israeli rockers.
