WMSE 91.7FM and Times Cinema are partnering to bring you another Friday Night Freak Show! David Bowie left this world on January 10th, 2016. On the two year anniversary of this tragic event, we bring you (a possibly immortal?) Bowie by the way of 1983’s THE HUNGER.

DJ spins at 8PM. Film at 9PM. Tickets: http://bit.ly/2BxrnNm

Long before TWILIGHT made it hip to fall in love with a vampire, there was Whitley Streiber’s 1981 novel THE HUNGER, which emphasized the “lust” in bloodlust and equated the vampire’s insatiable appetite with the overpowering, all-consuming desires of junkies to feed their addiction.

If you ever tried re-imagining FLASHDANCE as a horror movie, you can bet it would look exactly like THE HUNGER (coincidentally, both films opened within weeks of each other in April 1983). Gorgeous, gory and ultra-’80s in every respect — check out the cameos by then-rising stars Willem Dafoe, John Pankow and Ann Magnuson — THE HUNGER turns out to be as steamy as it is scary. You get everything from a Deneuve/Bowie tryst in a spacious shower to the celebrated couplings of Sarandon and Deneuve. Scott utilizes his stars to memorable effect, as Deneuve and Bowie’s cool, otherworldly style contrasts tantalizingly with Sarandon’s delicacy (how slyly she rocks that filmy white t-shirt while asking Miriam, “Are you making a pass at me, Mrs. Blaylock?”). Forget Edward and Bella — this is what real supernatural sensuality is all about.
