What: The Gold Watch Trio, performing at Woodland Pattern Book Center

Who: The Gold Watch Trio=Glenn Kotche (drums), Jason Roebke (double bass), John Corbett (guitar)

When: Sunday, November 29th @ 7 p.m.

Where: Woodland Pattern Book Center is located at 720 E. Locust Street. More info at Woodlandpattern.org.

Why:

-Before Glenn Kotche became involved in Wilco (he’s currently their drummer), he was busy composing his own solo drum work. According to Woodland Pattern, “in 2007, the Kronos Quartet premiered Kotche’s Anomaly, a 25 minute, seven movement piece, at the San Francisco Jazz Festival”.

John Corbett (guitarist) is also a skilled turntablist and in his spare time, produces concerts and radio programs, curates art galleries, owns his own gallery, writes about/critiques music and is the director of Atavistic Records’ Unheard Music series. As a musician, Corbett has worked with Hamid Drake, Davey Williams, Thurston Moore, Alan Licht and Michael Snow.

-Bassist Jason Roebke keeps busy in Chicago with his electro-acoustic group tigersmilk and is deeply immersed in Chicago’s jazz community, working with everyone from Rob Mazurek and Dylan van der Schyff to Michiyo Yagi to Jason Adasiewicz. Roebke has performed in the Jeb Bishop Trio, Klang and Adasiewicz’s Rolldow, among others.Dusted makes mention of Roebke in that the guitarist “often provides tiny gestures of rhythmic intrigue, bowing brief harmonics, sometimes in an altogether different register, filling the sound almost to a quiet breaking point” [March, 2009].

The Gold Watch Trio at Woodland Pattern Book Center is presented by the Alternating Current Live series and will be broadcast on 91.7 FM, WMSE.org
