Thrashnetic serves as a living memorial. Our inaugural ALL AGES event is built upon the music and culture that Josh Russo was so dedicated to: industrial and electronic music. Our goal is to raise awareness and support for those who suffer from mental illness and those whose lives have been affected by suicide. We have partnered with PREVENT SUICIDE WISCONSIN & WMSE 91.7FM.
Josh Russo became enamored with industrial music and industrial music culture at a young age. He pursued every concert he could see- large or small, even as a young teen, sometimes accompanied by parents or grandparents. He loved the music, he loved the style, he loved the merchandise, he loved meeting the artists and making a lasting impression on them. Josh’s love for all of these things led to the growth of his craft hobby of adding studs, spikes, patches, and custom paint to denim and leather and also eventually outright fabric alterations. Josh would make vests or jackets or any number of other items with a theme or a subject in mind, often gifting the items to the subject to show his adoration. His talents flourished, which led to him establishing the “Thrashnetic” label and taking on commission jobs including accessorizing clothing for such artists as Chemlab, Cyanotic, 3teeth and more . The items that Josh crafted showed his reverence for the things that he based the projects on- retro sci fi & horror films, comics, video games, and most assuredly industrial music.
People who met Josh remembered Josh. People who met Josh loved Josh. He was excited, he was animated, he was often ridiculous, and above all else he was deeply caring. He was an adoring friend who bent over backwards for the people in his life. Josh was a real hero. He truly was a light that burned the brightest.
In Spring of 2019, Josh’s mental health began to deteriorate, and he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In October of 2019, Josh died by suicide. He was twenty-three years old.
• Bipolar disorder, sometimes referred to as manic-depressive disorder, is characterized by dramatic shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels that affect a person’s ability to carry out day-to-day tasks. These shifts in mood and energy levels are more severe than the normal ups and downs that are experienced by everyone.
• An estimated 4.4% of U.S. adults experience bipolar disorder at some time in their lives.
• People between the ages of 18-29 have the highest incidence rates of bipolar disorder.
• Treatment can help those living with bipolar disorder. There is no cure.
• Researchers estimate that between 25% and 60% of individuals with bipolar disorder will attempt suicide at least once in their lives and between 4% and 19% will complete suicide
